Chasing El Nino
1. What is El Nino?
~ El Nino is a change in climate or weather. ( El Nino is an abnormal warming of ocean surface water in the eastern tropical Pacific.)
2. How is it studied? What specific things are measured and how?
~ It was studied by buoys and satellites. They measured wind, temperature, and ocean currents. Temperature is measured by water sensors.
3. What are it's effect?
~ It's effects are causing rain to turn into ice, turning forest fires into inferences, floods, droughts, and landslides.
4. What causes El Nino?
~ There are no theories or clear specific causes for El Nino yet.
5. How are models used to determine when they will occur and how strong they will be?
~ The models are used by getting information from the past and makes a prediction on what's going to happen by past patterns.
6. How can we study the past to understand the future?
~ We can study by learning what happened in the past, and predict what would happen in the future to improve.
Summary: What was one interesting thing you learned today?
~ One interesting thing that I learned today was how El Nino didn't only caused unfortunate events to happen but also caused some good weather or climate change in other areas. It balanced out the climate and weather in different areas. It was very interesting how little changes in temperature can cause tremendous change in climates and weather.
